Jeff Sims' injury status revealed for Nebraska's game at Louisiana Tech, per report
Jeff Sims will not suit up for Nebraska as the Cornhuskers travel to Louisiana Tech on Saturday, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel.
Sims was 9-of-15 for 106 yards against Colorado on Sept. 9 but ended up injuring his ankle in the 4th quarter. Matt Rhule then turned to Heinrich Haarberg, who started against Northern Illinois and was 14-of-24 for 158 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Since coming over from Georgia Tech in the offseason, it’s been a slow start for Sims. In the season opener against Minnesota, he threw a touchdown but was picked off 3 times while throwing for just 114 yards. He had thrown 0 touchdowns prior to his injury against the Buffaloes in Week 2.
The Huskers will now be led by Sims’ backup against La. Tech, who are dealing with some injury concerns of their own. The Bulldogs will reportedly start Jack Turner, the first start of his college career.
Kickoff from Lincoln between the Huskers and Bulldogs is set for 3:30 p.m. ET. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
Sources: Heinrich Haarberg will start again this week at QB for Nebraska, with Jeff Sims available but not 100-percent (ankle). Louisiana Tech's Jack Turner will make his first career start at QB at Nebraska, as Hank Bachmeier (shoulder) is only available as an emergency…
