Lavonte David signs new contract for 14th season with Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Lavonte David has put together one of the most consistent NFL careers for a linebacker in this era, and the former Nebraska star is not done yet.
On Friday, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers confirmed David is returning to the franchise with a new contract. David has played all 13 seasons of his NFL career with the franchise that originally drafted him as a 2nd-round pick in 2012.
David is the franchise’s career leader in total tackles and ranks 2nd in solo tackles with 1,111. He is the NFL’s active leader in solo tackles and also holds Tampa Bay’s franchise record with 31 forced fumbles.

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, it is a 1-year deal worth $10 million with $9 million of the deal guaranteed. And even playing into his 30s, David has been among the most productive linebackers in the entire NFL while remaining impressively healthy.
In 5 seasons since turning 30, David has averaged 15 games and 119 combined tackles per season. His lowest output in that span is a 97-tackle performance in 2021 when he was limited to 12 games.
Overall, David has just 2 seasons with fewer than 100 tackles while appearing in 198 career games (all starts). He has one first-team All-Pro appearance and helped lead Tampa Bay to a dominant Super Bowl win over the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV.
As a member of the Huskers, David delivered 285 total tackles across the 2010-11 seasons. His 2010 total of 152 tackles is still a single-season record for Nebraska, and he was named first-team All-Big 12 in 2010 and first-team All-Big Ten in 2011.
Now, he’ll run it back for a 14th season in the NFL.
