Legendary Nebraska head coach Tom Osborne is scheduled to speak at the Capitol in Lincoln on Friday afternoon against the use of medical marijuana.
Osborne will speak on behalf of opponents of legalizing medical marijuana, along with Lt. Governor Mike Foley. The press conference will take place before a public hearing on the matter on Friday afternoon, according to Omaha.com.
The bill would adopt the Medical Cannabis Act and would make marijuana available for medical reasons in the state of Nebraska.
State Senator Anna Wishart spoke against Osborne’s views through a post on Facebook.
“He’s a legend in many ways, but on this issue he’s on the wrong side of history,” Wishart wrote. “The essential element that’s missing from the Governor’s press conference are the majority of Nebraskans, 70% plus and across the state, who are in favor of medical cannabis. You can meet them at my bill hearing tomorrow.”
Osborne was the head coach at Nebraska from 1973 through 1997. He wont three national championships with the Cornhuskers.
