Nebraska freshman quarterback Logan Smothers is off to an impressive debut as a starter. Smothers kicked off his first start with a two-yard rushing touchdown on the opening 75-yard drive.

Later in the third, Smothers flexed his toughness with a beautiful 40-yard pass under pressure:

The dime would go on to set up another touchdown run by Smothers, this time from a yard out.

Smothers is replacing the injured Adrian Martinez.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Smothers headed into the contest with 119 yards, no touchdowns, and no interceptions this season. The Alabama native arrived at Nebraska as a four-star prospect, according to the 247Sports Composite. Smothers was rated as the No. 14 dual-threat quarterback in the nation and the No. 14 prospect from Alabama for the Class of 2020.

Nebraska leads the all-time series 29-19-3 but Iowa is on a six-game winning streak.
