Luke Reimer taken to hospital during Week 5, per Matt Rhule
Luke Reimer was expected to be on track to play for Nebraska in Week 5 after an injury against Louisiana Tech a week ago. Unfortunately, Reimer was a late scratch when he was listed as “out” on Nebraska’s availability report.
At his postgame press conference, head coach Mat Rhule said Reimer was unavailable and was transported to the hospital early Saturday morning. Rhule said the team expects Reimer will be okay but exercised an abundance of caution with the player.
“Luke was not available for us today. Our thoughts and prayers are with Luke. He was unfortunately taken to the hospital this morning from the hotel,” said Rhule. “We’re hoping he’ll be okay, we’re expecting he’ll be okay, but just erring with an abundance of caution for him.”
Asked if Reimer was able to make it back to Memorial Stadium for the game, Rhule said he was told the linebacker was at the hospital throughout the game. He went on to say Reimer was trending toward playing on Saturday before experiencing pain Friday evening.
“He might have been, I didn’t see Luke. I was told he was at the hospital. Obviously, Luke was injured this week and just so you guys know, I didn’t lie to you,” Rhule explained. “You guys asked me if he was gonna be fine… He started to have some pain yesterday and they gave him an antibiotic and the antibiotic didn’t heal it so they just wanted to rule out infections and MRSA’s and those things.
“I don’t have any knowledge now, but that was a complete and total surprise this morning. It was actually at breakfast.”
Hopefully, it is just a temporary setback with Reimer able to return to full health quickly.
