Mark Whipple is wondering who his quarterback is going to be for Week 11. The offensive coordinator at Nebraska gave an update on the situation ahead of this weekend’s game against Michigan.

According to Whipple, starter Casey Thompson is doing “a lot better” but has still not taken a lot of practice reps this week. That distinction belongs to Logan Smothers and Chubba Purdy with both serving as options for this weekend.

Thompson sustained an arm injury in Nebraska’s game against Illinois. He threw for 172 yards and 1 touchdown to 2 interceptions before suffering the setback. Overall, Thompson has had an average year in Lincoln. He has thrown for 2,023 yards and 12 touchdowns to 10 interceptions.

It appears both Smothers and Purdy will have more of a role. Both quarterbacks have combined to complete just 22 passes for 172 yards and 0 touchdowns. Purdy has thrown for 3 interceptions on his own.

It might be a tall order for either quarterback against Michigan. The Wolverines come into the game with a perfect 9-0 record. Michigan blew out Rutgers in their last game 52-17. Nebraska comes into the contest on a three-game losing streak.

Good luck to whoever is under center at Nebraska. You’re going to need it against a potent Michigan defense.
