Winning the starting quarterback job at Nebraska is no small feat. Winning it as a true freshman? Well, that takes something special, and Cornhuskers head coach Matt Rhule believes Dylan Raiola has special qualities.

The 5-star stud from far away Chandler, Arizona, is being looked at as a savior of sorts for a program desperate to return to its powerhouse status. Before Raiola can lift Nebraska back to the lofty place it used to hold in the college football planet, Rhule knows he must be able to take the criticism that will inevitably come with Raiola’s journey.

“If you’re the QB at Nebraska, you better be ready to ride highs & lows,” Rhule said. “You better not be worried about what other people think of you.”

Rhule has been impressed by how Raiola has dealt with the bright spotlight in Lincoln, and believes his upbringing has a lot to do with it.

Raiola stands at roughly 6-foot-3, weighs 230 pounds, and has serious arm strength to go along with the looks that have been compared with Kansas City Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Raiola is also the son of former NFL player Dominic Raiola and the godson of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford, who was a teammate of the elder Raiola on the Detroit Lions.

Dylan Raiola’s journey at Nebraska begins Saturday afternoon on national TV, as the Cornhuskers host UTEP at 3:30 p.m. ET on FOX.
