Matt Rhule has wrapped up his first season as head coach at Nebraska. Throughout the season, he had a chance to experience the Husker fanbase firsthand, and he loved every bit of it.
Speaking on the Pat McAfee Show Tuesday, Rhule delivered more praise for Nebraska fans and the game-day vibe inside Memorial Stadium. Rhule said he’s never been anywhere where the fans pack the stadium in time for warmups.
“It’s outrageous. I’ve never been somewhere where the people are in the stands to watch warmups,” said Rhule. “The stadium is full 45 minutes before the game because they appreciate their Cornhuskers so much that they want to see all the players warm up. And they stay til the end.”
Moving forward, Rhule also said he believes Nebraska has the pieces in place to be a sneaky good team in college football. He pointed to the Huskers being positioned smack dab in the geographical middle of the new-look Big Ten and a young team with a strong fanbase.
“We’ve got a great young team. We’ll be a team — I believe — in the coming years that everyone in college football is going to have to deal with,” Rhule explained.
