Matt Rhule was introduced as the new head coach at Nebraska Monday afternoon. While things have not been pretty for the Huskers in recent history, Rhule’s introduction should be considered a big win for the program.
With his track record as a proven program builder, Rhule will set out to reshape the program that has not been to a bowl game or posted a winning season since 2016. Rhule was especially asked about his vision for recruiting on Monday.
Rhule noted his ties to the state of Texas as something that will be leaned on at Nebraska. He also specifically cited Florida and New Jersey as spots of interest in recruiting and a 500-mile radius with a focus on in-state prospects.
Long interesting answer from Matt Rhule on where he’ll recruit – TX, NJ, FL and 500 mile radius – and the kinds of summer camps envisioned (huge) and a desire not to hire “celebrity coaches” who go to one school a day. Wants “young, energetic” coaches.

Rhule points out recruiting ties are Texas are something they will lean on. He has really good ones there. Mentions Florida among important states too. “And the in-state talent, I’m excited about.” Said he wants 2,000 to 3,000 kids coming to summer camps here.

To make the rebuild happen, Rhule will be compensated impressive. Contract details announced Monday indicate an annual salary just north of $9 million for Rhule with an impressive pool for assistant coach salaries.
We’ll see if Rhule can make it happen in Lincoln.
