Matt Rhule isn’t worried about the forecast, rain or shine. That’s good news since Week 4 in Lincoln could feature a wet forecast for Nebraska football.

At his Thursday press conference, Rhule said the team has been getting in some extra wet ball drills during the week. However, he also noted the team has already had a number of rainy reps with the Huskers practicing outside unless absolutely told not to.

“We did some wet football stuff last night. Luckily for us, you know us, we don’t go inside in camp during the rain, we don’t go inside in the spring. We don’t use the indoor facility unless we absolutely have to, the doctor comes in and says it’s too hot,” said Rhule. “Otherwise we’re outside because we play outside. We’ve got a lot of reps in the rain a lot of reps this week doing wet ball drill.”

Rhule went on to say he’s also not worried about the rain in part because Nebraska fans will be there no matter what. It’s up to him — and the players — to live up to the standard those fans expect, regardless of the conditions.

“The great thing about being at the University of Nebraska is you know everyone is going to show up no matter what,” Rhule explained. “For me, I think about all the people coming to sit in the stands… They can’t come and have us bumble the ball around because it’s wet. There’s a standard and we have to play in a way as Coach Osborne would say is pleasing to the fans… We have to play to a standard, we have to show our gratitude and thanks. I’m thankful for all the people in our state so we have to play well. You can hear in my voice, I want our guys to know there is no excuse for not playing Nebraska football.”

Nebraska made strides in playing to that standard during a Week 3 win after 2 losses to start the season. We’ll see if the Huskers can keep it rolling, regardless of what the conditions look like at kickoff.
