Matt Rhule understands that AJ Rollins has the frame to make himself a versatile contributor to the Cornhuskers this season. How that ends up remains to be seen, but Rollins — and his 6-foot-6 and 220 pound size — has already moved around the field.

Rollins is considered one of the “gray shirt guys” that are playing both ways for Nebraska this spring. Jalil Martin is another player who has spent time at wide receiver and defensive back this spring. Martin moved in part because the numbers went down at wideout, Rhule said. Rhule spoke about Rollins’ potential.

“He’s gone over a couple of times as a defensive lineman, I think he’s probably had the most sacks on the team. He practiced with the D-line today but also can give us reps at tight end. I personally think he has a real future there (on D-line). I don’t make guys move, but I think he’s feeling his way, he’s a great, great, great kid, when I say kid, he’s a young man. He’s a great young man, he’s sort of like, ‘What do you think is best?’ So he’s kind of been playing both ways the last couple of weeks, and then we put him over on defense, but kept the gray jersey on him, just in case we have to move him over to offense.”
