The University of Nebraska-Lincoln reported on Saturday afternoon that Tyler Butterfield, a 20-year-old member of the school’s marching band, was involved in a car accident in Lincoln on Friday night. Butterfield was killed in the accident and five others were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Two of the others injured in the accident were also members of the band.
“UNL confirms 20-year-old Tyler Butterfield, a Cornhusker marching band member and junior accounting major, was killed in a crash last night in Lincoln. LPD says he was a passenger in a car that was turning out onto 10th street when they were hit by a Dodge Charger,” Sarah Fili of KETV tweeted.
Butterfield played the trumpet in the school’s marching band. Several of his friends and band members were made aware of his passing prior to Nebraska’s game against Bethune-Cookman, according to KOLN.
It is with great sadness to report to our extended band family that Tyler Butterfield was tragically killed in a car accident last night. Our sympathies to all those affected by this loss. We’re all one big family, so please keep the CMB in your thoughts and prayers.
