Mickey Joseph was handed the interim reins at Nebraska following the firing of Scott Frost. Joseph went on to make a few changes, most notably on the defensive side of the ball.

After being named the interim head coach, Joseph made the announcement that Blackshirt recipients would have to re-earn that designation. Joseph also fired then-DC Erik Chinander following a blowout loss to Oklahoma.

Though results were not overwhelmingly positive in terms of wins and losses, Joseph kept Nebraska competitive and guided the team to a 3-6 while at the helm. That ended with an upset of Iowa on Black Friday.

After the game, Joseph said he does have plans to redistribute the Blackshirts. According to Joseph, he’ll have them ready for the players in their lockers on Monday.

While Nebraska’s season is over with no shot at a bowl game, it is a cool gesture by Joseph to the players that had previously earned Blackshirt status. Now, the program — and Joseph — will await word on who the permanent head coach will be.
