Despite the dark cloud growing above the head of Mike Riley, the Nebraska head coach had nothing but great things to say about new athletic director Bill Moos.

On Sunday, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln hired Moos to replace ex-AD Shawn Eichorst and try to steer the athletic program in a more positive direction. Moos, the previous athletic director at Washington State, has been known for building successful programs in the past.

After the announcement, Riley released a statement about Moos coming to Lincoln, which was published by the Omaha World-Herald:

Dee and I had a chance to meet briefly with Bill and Kendra this afternoon and it was great to reconnect. I’ve known Bill for a number of years from our time in the Pac-10 and Pac-12. I have great respect for the job he did at both Oregon and Washington State, and the success he built at those schools. I look forward to working with him in the near future and to talk about our vision for the Nebraska football program.

Many are speculating that one of the first duties for Moos will be to terminate Riley and start searching for a new head coach for the Huskers.

However, Moos said at his introductory press conference that he’s not a guy who likes firing a head coach in the middle of the season. He also said he’s “supporting’ Riley as the head coach of the football program.

Moos will take over the role as athletic director beginning Oct. 23.
