There were winners and losers on Saturday at Memorial Stadium.
Then there was Staff sergeant Matthew Hawke.
Hawke returned from a 10-month tour in Afghanistan to give his family the ultimate surprise at the start of Nebraska’s spring game. Hawke’s son, Austin, got to do the pregame coin toss. Little did he or Hawke’s family know who No. 10 in white was.
That is, until he took off his helmet:

Between that and Jack Hoffman’s memorable march to the end zone, Nebraska produced some of the more touching spring game moments you’ll ever see.
