Mohamed Barry comfortable in 'way smarter defense' entering Scott Frost's second season
Nebraska’s defense is gearing up for a much improved 2019 season.
It is no secret that the Cornhuskers’ defense needs to be better. After allowing 31.2 points per game last season, a big focus is on the defense taking a leap in year two under head coach Scott Frost.
One of the big leaders on the defense is linebacker Mohamed Barry. He led the team with 112 tackles in 2018 and is looking to lead the unit to better performance as a senior.
During the BTN Bus Tour stop on campus, Barry discussed how the defense is adjusting heading into the second season under Frost. He pointed out that the unit is much more comfortable and a lot smarter this season:
“It’s comfortable,” explained Barry. “What I like about it is we’ve become a way smarter defense, our defensive coordinator has installed so much more stuff.”
With expectations continuing to rise around the program, Barry was asked how the team is defining success in 2019. For Barry, he said it all comes back to the effort each and every game:
“How we play each game,” said Barry. “I want the defense to play fast, physical, a brand of defense that you can associate to our university…if we are consistent in both ways, the numbers are going to take care of themselves.”
