Nebraska adds Lil Red distraction to videoboard during field goal tries

Nebraska is finally back in Memorial Stadium, hitting the field in Lincoln for the 2023 home opener. It is already Game 3 of the season for Matt Rhule and the Huskers but just their first game in front of a home crowd this season.
What’s in a home-field advantage? Well, that depends on the venue, but Nebraska unveiled one new addition to Memorial Stadium in the home opener.
When Northern Illinois lined up for a short field goal try, the video board inside the stadium featured Lil Red in a distraction technique. While fans are used to Lil Red this particular close-up look is a bit more… intense, to say the least.

It did not work this time around with Jake Seibert drilling a 30-yard field goal for the Huskies. However, it’s still early and the tactic might yield better results over the course of the season.
Saturday is also the on-field home football debut for the new Herbie mascot. We’ll see how the reception of the new-look Herbie plays out this fall.
