Nebraska hit the field for the 2023 spring game, the first for the program under new head coach Matt Rhule.

Throughout the weekend, the Huskers had a number of honors in store for former player, assistant and head coach Frank Solich. Solich played for Nebraska in the 1960s as a fullback before returning to serve on the coaching staff for the Huskers.

While recognizing Solich during halftime of the spring game, Nebraska announced the new football locker room will be named the Frank Solich Locker Room presented by the Touchdown Club.

“The choice to name the locker room for Coach Solich, I think it goes back a long ways starting in the (Bob) Devaney era, through the (Tom) Osborne Era and then him as head coach, I think it’s just very fitting that the locker room be named after Frank Solich,” said Terry Connealy in a video shared by the Huskers.

“He was a guy that was really a players coach. He expected a lot out of you but always respected you. He impacted so many players over the decades he was here that it just seemed like a fitting way to honor him.”

Among other honors for Solich, Nebraska began the spring game with a fullback trap in recognition of his playing days. The Huskers also painted the 45-yard lines inside Memorial Stadium in recognition of Solich wearing No. 45 as a player.
