Nebraska coaching search: CFB insider breaks down 3 options for Huskers

Soon after the season ends, Nebraska will decide on its new head coach, and according to Fox Sports college football commentator Bruce Feldman, he thinks that the Cornhuskers should look at these three candidates.

Feldman said on the McElroy and Cubelic Show on WJOX radio out of Birmingham, Alabama, that these three coaches may be in the running for the Nebraska job: Matt Campbell of Iowa State, Lance Leipold who was an assistant under former Nebraska head coach Frank Solich and Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien.

Feldman gave his thoughts on each candidate:

“Matt Campbell, he’s done a terrific job at Iowa State,” Feldman said. “He has developed a good culture at a place that had any sustained success, and he’s proved that he’s really good at developing talent.”

“Then there’s Lance Leipold, who’s a former Nebraska assistant under Frank Solich,” he said. “He won 6 national titles at D-3, and did a really good job at Buffalo in the MAC. Now, he’s kind of working miracles at Kansas, who has been bad for so long.”

“The third one is Bill O’Brien,” Feldman said. “He’s at Alabama, obviously, but Trev Alberts has admired him for a long time dating back to when they were both in Atlanta when O’Brien was at Georgia Tech. He has a lot of respect for how O’Brien did taking over a horrific situation at Penn State in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky scandal.”

It will be interesting to see who the school will choose as their next head coach and if any of these names will be on their list.
