Bruce Feldman talked with the Big Noon Kickoff crew about who some of the top candidates for the Nebraska head coaching job are. He picked four coaches from around the country.

Feldman believes that the top candidates right now are former Carolina Panthers and Baylor HC Matt Rhule, Army HC Jeff Monken, Alabama OC Bill O’Brien, and Texas assistant Gary Patterson.

Rhule was just let go by the Panthers and it’s unclear as of right now if he would entertain a return to the college ranks. O’Brien also has some experience at the NFL level, as the former HC of the Houston Texans.

Patterson was the longtime HC at TCU before joining Steve Sarkisian’s staff at Texas.

At the end of the day, the team still might promote interim HC Mickey Joseph, so who knows?

Nebraska fired Scott Frost following the 45-42 loss to Georgia Southern in Week 2. Joseph has Nebraska at 3-5 through eight games. We’ll see if Joseph’s efforts will be enough for the administration to trust him with a head coaching gig.
