Gifford saw extensive action as Nebraska’s nickel back in the final two games of the 2021 season, his freshman year. He sees it as the perfect spot for his skill set. Gifford acknowledged he’s got some strong competition for the starting spot, calling it a “special” group of defenders.

Chinander says there are three nickels they feel good about playing. Gifford, Chris Kolarevic and Javan Wright figure to be that trio:

Whether Gifford, Kolarevic or Wright gets the starting nod, it sounds like the Huskers have a trio of capable defensive backs at the position.
