A Nebraska defensive end has been recognized for his service to the community.

Thursday morning, the University of Nebraska sent out a press release stating that Freedom Akinmoladun was named to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. He was one of 11 FBS players to be selected.

Akinmoladun has earned recognition for his efforts before, being named to the Brook Berringer and Tom Osborne Citizenship Teams from 2015 through 2018 for his community outreach. He spent a week in the Dominican Republic in May 2017 as part of Nebraska’s No Filter Outreach Trip.

He is one of two B1G players named to the team, alongside Wisconsin’s D’Cota Dixon.

On the field, Akinmoladun has been a three-year starter for the Huskers, registering 81 tackles, 13 for loss and 11 sacks in his career. He posted four tackles and 1.5 sacks in last week’s game against Colorado.

According to the release, Akinmoladun is the 15th Husker to be recognized since the honor was first presented 25 years ago.
