Nebraska earns commitment from top in-state lineman Ashton Murphy
Nebraska hosted Omaha (Neb.) Elkhorn South lineman Ashton Murphy on a visit Tuesday morning. Murphy was spotted taking in spring practice for the Huskers and evidently walked away feeling like coach Matt Rhule’s program is everything he’s looking for.
Murphy is staying home.
He announced his commitment to Big Red Tuesday evening.
Had another amazing visit at UNL today. I really like how the Coaches & Staff make me feel at home. Rightfully so because it is home! Comitted!!🌽☠️

Murphy had been out to visit Iowa, Colorado, and Air Force all earlier this month. NU was hoping to keep the rising offensive lineman home. Mission accomplished.
A 6-foot-5, 240-pound lineman who plays both sides of the football for Elkhorn South, Murphy is ranked as the No. 5 recruit from the state of Nebraska in the 2024 cycle and the No. 49 tackle. He’s a 3-star in the industry-generated 247 Composite.
Murphy told Husker247’s Michael Bruntz last month that though he doesn’t have a preference on which side of the ball he plays in college, Nebraska views him as a defensive lineman right now.
As a junior, Murphy was credited with 37 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles. He gives NU its third known commit for the 2024 class.
