Nebraska fans will remember this one for a long time.

The 88-72 victory on Tuesday night over No. 1 Purdue is considered the Cornhuskers’ biggest win in 4 decades, and coach Fred Hoiberg called it “incredible.” Nebraska improved to 13-3 and 3-2 in the Big Ten, and it last defeated a No. 1 team 41 years ago, when it beat top-ranked Missouri 67-51. The Huskers last win over a No. 1 in Lincoln was a 74-73 victory over Michigan in 1962.

The key sequence came as Nebraska built an 11-point halftime lead by holding Purdue scoreless for the final 3 1/2 minutes of the first half, as the Huskers scored 13 unanswered in a run that began with a pair of 3-pointers by Keisei Tominaga and ended with 7 straight from Sam Hoiberg.

Tominaga finished with a game-high 19 points, and Rienk Mast poured in 18 points, while CJ Wilcher chipped in 16 points off the bench.

Purdue made a counter punch early in the sceond half, but the Huskers responded with with a 14-2 run to go up by 13 on Wilcher’s 3-pointer with 11:52 remaining.

Purdue was led by Zach Edey’s 15 points, as he had 7 rebounds and 3 fouls.
