Nebraska entered a Saturday elimination game after the bats were quieted in the Stillwater Regional opener vs. Florida. The Huskers began the game against Niagara a bit sluggish, but the bats finally woke up and delivered the big hits that were missing on Friday.

After falling behind 4-0 early on, Nebraska cut into the deficit with a long ball from Case Sanderson. That 3-run shot made it 4-3 and set the table for Gabe Swansen and the offense to pull ahead in the top of the 5th inning.

With the score tied at 4-all, Swansen went deep to continue his scorching hot postseason. He homered and doubled in the regional opener and put the Huskers on top 5-4 Saturday afternoon.

Niagara would respond with a solo home run to tie things up in the bottom of the 5th inning, but Nebraska would not be denied. A sacrifice bunt and throwing error by Niagara put the Huskers back on top in the 6th before Swansen came back to the plate in the 7th.

Swansen kept his power stroke going, blasting a tape-measure blast to center field for an insurance run to make it 7-5.

Those 7 runs would be enough for Nebraska with Jalen Worthley coming on in relief for the final 3 innings. He would not give up a run while covering the final 3 innings in the win after Mason McConnaughey was able to cover 6 innings while keeping Nebraska in the game.

Gabe Swansen’s hot streak

After going on a tear at the B1G Tournament, Swansen has kept things rolling in Stillwater. With the rest of the lineup struggling against Florida, Swansen went 2-for-3 with a pair of extra-base hits while driving in both runs the Huskers would score against the Gators.

With his performance against Niagara, Swansen is now 4-for-8 in the Stillwater Regional with 3 runs scored, 4 RBI, 4 extra-base hits and 3 home runs. He was asked about that hot streak after the win, and he said he’s simply trying to keep things simple at the plate.

“Just sticking to my approach, not trying to do too much at the plate. Just being simple and confident, knowing I can do it and knowing my teammates have my back and I got theirs,” Swansen explained.

The win keeps Nebraska alive in the Stillwater Regional and moves the Huskers into another do-or-die game with a 2 pm ET matchup on Sunday. The Huskers will face the loser of the Oklahoma State vs. Florida matchup which is set for Saturday night.
