Heinrich and Nelson are two of the Huskers’ best players. Heinrich was the second leading tackler on the team last season and sixth in the B1G, totaling 99 tackles with 3.5 for loss and half a sack. Nelson wasn’t far behind, tallying 57 tackles and leading the Huskers with 5 sacks on the year.
Tannor, Nelson and Heinrich are 3 of 5 starters returning on an iffy defense from last season. Tannor totaled 33 tackles, 5 tackles for loss and 2 sacks on the season, appearing in all 12 games.
Vokolek will likely get the nod as the Huskers’ starting tight end following the departure of Levi Falck to graduation. Vokolek tallied 11 catches for 127 yards as a junior last season after missing the first three games of the year.
