Because of Nebraska’s loss to Colorado in Week 2, the Ohio State-Nebraska matchup this weekend will not be between two ranked teams. But Cornhuskers coach Scott Frost is still calling this week and Saturday’s matchup a special time for Nebraska football.

“Regardless of how this game goes, this is a special time for Nebraska,” Frost said in his press conference Monday. “There’s some big things coming this week. (ESPN) Gameday hasn’t been here for 10 or 12 years. This is a good opportunity to highlight our program, the direction the program is going, the improvement we’ve made, the path we’re on. It’s going to be great to get some national attention here in Lincoln.”

Every coach wants to win every game, but these comments from Frost put in perspective what it takes to build a program. Winning is the most direct route to a championship, but receiving national exposure in a close game against a national contender is another.

Of course, as Frost rightfully points out, Nebraska wouldn’t be in this situation, playing a game on national television and hosting College Gameday without winning other games first.

Nebraska will host Ohio State at 7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
