The Omaha World-Herald reported on Thursday that Nebraska got a commitment from the first member of its 2018 class. Cameron Jurgens, a 6-3, 220-pound sophomore to be from Beatrice, Neb. confirmed to the newspaper that he verbally committed to Mike Riley’s program.

Jurgens earned a spot in 247 Sports’ Top 100 in 2018, which was announced last week. The Beatrice High tight end impressed Riley at the team’s camp and earned an offer from the first year coach in the beginning of June.

Former Nebraska coach Bo Pelini developed a reputation for not offering scholarships to in-state talent. The early offer and commit from Jurgens shows that times are changing in Lincoln.
