Mike Riley put an end to the running back battle with the release of the Week 1 depth chart on Monday.

Despite all the talk in camp about redshirt freshman Mikale Wilbon, Terrell Newby will get the Week 1 nod at I-back. Husker beat writer Sean Callahan tweeted the entire depth chart.

Newby is in his third year with the Huskers and hasn’t made a start backing up Ameer Abdullah. With Abdullah’s NFL departure, the Huskers ground game is without one of its all-time greats.

The Los Angeles native played in all 13 games last year, but was fourth on the team in rushing behind Abdullah, Tommy Armstrong and Imani Cross. Cross is listed as one of several options at No. 2, but figures to make his way into the rotation as the short-yardage back.

Nebraska was 17th in the country in rushing last year, but is going to a pro-style offense this year under new offensive coordinator Danny Langsdorf.

The Huskers will kick off 2015 at home against BYU on Saturday.
