Nebraska lands 2023 QB out of Massachusetts recruited by new OC Mark Whipple
Nebraska is working on building its 2023 recruiting class, and the Huskers landed a QB for the cycle with the help of their new OC and QBs coach.
The player is William Watson III, a 3-star QB out of Springfield, Massachusetts. According to Parker Gabriel with the Lincoln Journal Star, Watson announced his commitment Tuesday evening during a basketball game at his high school.
According to the 247 Sports Composite Rankings, Watson is the No. 8 player out of Massachusetts and the No. 36 QB nationally for the cycle. He held offers from around the country, including Tennessee, Boston College, Arizona, Pittsburgh, Kentucky, Michigan and Oregon.
Watson’s primary recruiter was new OC/QB coach Mark Whipple who has ties to the state. Whipple spent 2014-18 as head coach at UMass before spending 3 years at Pittsburgh, helping to develop Pitt QB Kenny Pickett.
The commitment is a solid one and brings Nebraska’s 2023 class up to 5 commits. That group currently ranks No. 13 nationally with plenty of time still to go in the cycle.
