With Scott Frost entering a make-or-break year in 2022, Nebraska decided to hit the NCAA transfer portal hard this offseason. The result has been acquiring one of the top transfer classes in college football.

247Sports recently ranked the Top 10 transfer classes heading into the 2022 campaign and Nebraska landed at No. 6 on the list. It was the only B1G program to make the cut.

The Huskers have brought in a total of 15 players from the transfer portal in hopes of turning around last year’s 3-9 season into a more successful campaign in 2022. It’s a key year for Frost, who has yet to post a winning record or reach a bowl game in his first 4 seasons in Lincoln.

Here’s a look at some of the key players Nebraska has brought in via transfer:

  • Ochaun Mathis, DE (TCU)
  • Tommi Hill, DB (Arizona State)
  • Kaine Williams, DB (Alabama)
  • Trey Plamer, WR (LSU)
  • Omar Brown, DB (Northern Iowa)
  • Casey Thompson, QB (Texas)
  • Marcus Washington, WR (Texas)
  • Devin Drew, DT (Texas Tech)
  • Isaiah Garcia-Castaneda, WR (New Mexico State)

It’s easy to see why there’s so much optimism surrounding Nebraska heading into 2022 even after a disappointing year last fall. From 247Sports:

The Huskers have been aggressive in the portal this offseason attempting to fortify a roster that’s in win-now mode under Scott Frost. The star of the Huskers transfer class is top-rated defensive end Ochaun Mathis, the No. 12 overall player in the portal. Among Nebraska’s other highlights are Texas QB transfer Casey Thompson and Arizona State cornerback transfer Tommi Hill, both of whom project to immediately be among Nebraska’s best players on their respective sides of the ball.

Nebraska is scheduled to open the 2022 campaign in Ireland against B1G West foe Northwestern in Week 0.
