Nebraska lands Mother's Day commitment from 4-star 2025 QB
Nebraska football has something extra to celebrate on Mother’s Day.
Matt Rhule’s Cornhuskers have picked up a commitment from a blue-chip quarterback. California product TJ Lateef announced his pledge to play for Nebraska.

A standout of Orange (California) Lutheran High School, Lateef is listed as measuring over 6-1 and 185 pounds. On the 247Sports Composite, Lateef is rated 4-stars, the No. 17 quarterback prospect, No. 23 recruit in the state of California and No. 238 player overall in the 2025 recruiting class.
Lateef had scholarship offers from 15 programs at this stage of his recruitment. Nebraska won his commitment over Colorado and Ole Miss. Arizona, Arizona State, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Michigan State, Oregon State, Penn State and Texas A&M are among the other programs that showed interest at various stages of his recruitment.
Statement on the recruiting trails for Rhule, Huskers
As Blair Angulo of 247Sports points out, Lateef could give Nebraska its first back-to-back recruiting classes with blue-chip quarterbacks in this century. That will be true if Lateef holds his 4-star rating and follows through on his verbal commitment by signing with the Huskers.
It can be tricky to recruit quarterbacks in an era of unlimited entries into the transfer portal with immediate eligibility. Quarterbacks who earn 4-star ratings get a lot of hype, and not many are willing to spend time sitting on the bench.
There were likely many quarterback prospects who were not interested in being part of the next class after Dylan Raiola. The 5-star quarterback who made the late flip to Nebraska looks to be the Huskers’ quarterback of the future. Under current rules, Raiola will need to be three seasons removed from high school to declare for the NFL Draft.
Raiola dazzled in Nebraska’s recent spring game. While the quarterback competition will officially continue, Lateef can take comfort in the fact that it looks like Raiola won’t be redshirting. Nationally, many came away feeling Raiola will be QB1 this fall.
Lateef told Angulo that he plans to come in and compete. Assuming Raiola is the 2025 starter, Lateef could redshirt to extend his eligibility through the 2029.
If Lateef keeps his Nebraska commitment, the Huskers could have at least two blue-chip QBs on the roster in 2025 and ’26. That’s a bright future for Rhule’s program.
