Nebraska seems to be in good position to land one of the top defensive line transfers on the market.

The Huskers are favored to land Mizzou defensive line transfer Williams Nwaneri, according to 2 of the sport’s leading recruiting experts. On Thursday, On3’s Steve Wiltfong and Pete Nakos each gave predictions for Nebraska to sign the talented pass rusher out of the portal:

Nwaneri spent just 1 season with the Tigers before entering the transfer portal. He initially chose Mizzou over Oklahoma as a 5-star prospect in the class of 2024, but he had no shortage of options coming out of high school in the Kansas City area.

He was the No. 8 overall player and the No. 1 edge rusher in the country for the class of 2024, per 247Sports Composite rankings.

Despite the high prospect pedigree, Nwaneri did not play much of a role for the Tigers in 2024. He earned just 38 snaps this season for Mizzou, according to Pro Football Focus. That ranked 6th amongst Missouri’s edge rushers.

If Nebraska does land Nwaneri, it would be an exciting addition for the Huskers. Nebraska is hoping to take a big step forward in 2025 after snapping its bowl drought this past season with a 6-6 regular season in 2024.
