Nebraska hasn’t wasted much time trying to find a permanent athletic director.

According to Lee Barfknecht of the Omaha World-Herald, the Huskers could be naming its new athletic director as early as this week. Barfknecht reported that “three sources” have hinted that a decision is either coming or has already been made. There has been no confirmation from the university at this time.

There has also been little-to-no information provided about the candidates Nebraska has interviewed or is interested in interviewing for the position. Any names that have been mentioned have been regarded as “speculation.”

Nebraska decided to part ways with Shawn Eichorst on Sept. 21, leaving the post vacant in the middle of the football season. Former Huskers football star Dave Rimington was tabbed the athletic director on an interim basis and was not expected to surpass the 60-day mark in the position.

It’s unknown whether the university is interested in hiring someone with prior ties to Nebraska.
