Nebraska has waited a long time to name Scott Frost its head coach.

For the last two months, there was pretty heavy speculation that the Huskers would shuck Mike Riley and focus their attention on Frost — a hometown hero. It wasn’t until Saturday, though, after UCF’s 62-55 win over Memphis in the AAC title game that Nebraska officially announced the hire.

It was a slam dunk hire for Bill Moos and the program, and certainly one the fans are on board with. But how are the players feeling about Frost coming back to Lincoln? From the sound of it, they’re pretty psyched about it.

Sam McKewon of the Omaha World Hearald was able to get the reactions from several Husker players, who were all excited about the hire. Here’s what a few players had to say:

This is exactly what we need. And exactly what this state needs. It’s going to be fun. – Running back Devine Ozigbo

It was refreshing. We’re just happy to finally have a coach at the helm and know which direction we’re going. – Linebacker Mohamed Barry

I liked the passion he had with his players (at UCF), the love he had. – Wide receiver Stanley Morgan Jr.

It’s a good sign that Frost has already won over several of Nebraska’s key contributors. Getting players to buy-in to a new coach, new system and new rules can be the hardest part behind a coaching change.

But it sounds like the Huskers are ready to get to work for Frost.

That’s a really, really good sign in Lincoln.
