University of Nebraska President Ted Carter took an opportunity to clear up a comment he said was “taken out of context” on Tuesday morning before a press conference.

Carter was making small talk before a Tuesday press conference, when he leaked that a decision on the B1G would be announced later in the day. KETV 7 in Omaha caught the sound.

“We’re getting ready to announce the Huskers and B1G football tonight,” Carter said while speaking with an individual near the mic.

Pressed about his comment on the “hot mic,” Carter said it was taken out of context.

“I think that was picked up a little out of context,” Carter said. “All I said was there’s working going on. We remain cautiously optimistic like everybody else and we’ll get to discover when it’s safe to play.”

Carter’s comment comes on the same day that Minnesota Football’s Twitter account sent out a poll question on the social media platform, asking when the last time the Golden Gophers’ season started in October.

We’ll find out soon enough if the B1G will be returning.
