One Nebraska QB is hitting the transfer portal after spring practices, the player announced on Tuesday.

The player is Richard Torres, a former 3-star prospect out of Texas via the 2022 recruiting class. He enters the transfer portal with 4 years of eligibility remaining.

“First I want to thank God for all the experiences he has guided me through,” wrote Torres. “Next I want to thank Husker Nation for showing constant support through my time here in Lincoln. I would like to also thank Coach Rhule and the Staff for support and the opportunity to live out my aspirations. Last I want to thank my teammates who I can call brothers for life for making Nebraska feel like home. GBR.”

The move is not a terribly surprising one from Torres. He joined the Huskers as a part of Scott Frost’s final recruiting class in Lincoln as a 6-foot-5 and 210-pound QB prospect out of San Antonio, Texas.

For the 2023 season, the starting job appears to be down to returning starter Casey Thompson and incoming transfer Jeff Sims. Beyond that, the depth chart was crowded with Logan Smothers, Chubba Purdy and Heinrich Haarberg fighting for positioning.
