Nebraska is expected to see at least one piece of the quarterback room hit the transfer portal when things open up on Dec. 9.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, QB Daniel Kaelin plans to enter the portal after completing his true freshman season with the Huskers. Kaelin was a 3-star recruit in the 2024 recruiting class who redshirted this year.

Coming out of high school, Kaelin was a 3-star prospect but one of the key players from the state of Nebraska for the 2024 recruiting class. The 247 Sports Composite rated Kaelin as the No. 6 overall player from the state.

While the loss undoubtedly stings, the move makes some sense for Kaelin’s playing future. He entered the program alongside Dylan Raiola, the 5-star legacy recruit, and it’s clear Raiola is the immediate future for the Huskers at the position.

Heinrich Haarberg served as the immediate backup this season and was even used in certain packages with the offense. With Haarberg possessing eligibility for the 2025 season if he decides to return, the would not be much chance for Kaelin to see the field next season barring major changes.

Kaelin will have 4 years of eligibility remaining.
