A member of Nebraska’s 2019 recruiting class will be joining the team next week after some concerns that he may not qualify to join the program until fall.

Husker Extra reported that three-star running back Ronald Thompkins has fully qualified and will join Nebraska’s summer program next week. According to the report, there wasn’t ever serious concern that Thompkins wouldn’t be able to join the Huskers, but it was a matter of when.

Thompkins is a native of Loganville, Georgia and was ranked as the No. 5 all-purpose back in the recruiting cycle, according to 247Sports. He was also listed as one of the top 50 players from his home state.

The 5-foot-11, 195-pound back will join two other talented running backs this fall — junior college transfer Dedrick Mills and fellow 2019 commit Wan’Dale Robinson, who arrived in the winter.

Nebraska was excited about landing Thompkins, as he was heavily recruited by several premier programs, including LSU, Penn State, Florida State and Alabama, among others. He’ll add significant depth to the Huskers’ backfield and could potentially make an impact early in his career.
