Nebraska released its initial depth chart for the 2023 football season on Friday.

The new year marks the start of the Matt Rhule era in Lincoln. Even though the Huskers are looking for their first winning season since 2016, excitement around Rhule is high. Nebraska gets rolling on Thursday, Aug. 31, against the Minnesota Golden Gophers in Minneapolis.

Here’s a look at the depth chart for the game:

There are several “OR” distinctions on the two-deep marking position battles that will bleed over into the start of the season.

On offense, Nate Boerkircher and Thomas Fidone are still competing for the top spot at tight end. Heinrich Haarberg and Chuba Purdy share the QB2 job. The fullback spot is also still unsettled.

On defense, Blaise Gunnerson and freshman Cameron Lenhardt are battling for the starting defensive end spot opposite Ty Robinson. Chief Borders and MJ Sherman are competing for the starting JACK spot.

The Huskers play Minnesota at 8 p.m. ET on FOX next Thursday.
