Nebraska reportedly adds nonconference opponent to 2025 football schedule
Nebraska’s 2025 football schedule will feature a 1st-time nonconference opponent, as Houston Christian will reportedly play the Cornhuskers in Lincoln on Sept. 13 of that year.
As FBSchedules.com notes, the Huskies have the date listed on their schedule, despite an official announcement not being made by either program as of Tuesday evening.
Houston Christian, formerly Houston Baptist, plays in the FCS’s Southland Conference and is led by Braxton Harris in his 1st season. Prior to taking the reins at HCU, Harris was on the staff of Campbell for 2 seasons.
With HCU reportedly in the fold, the Huskers’ 2025 non-conference schedule is set: they will host Akron on Sept. 6 and UL-Monroe on October 18. Their season opener that year will be against Cincinnati on Aug. 30 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, with the Bearcats considered the home team.
The Nebraska-Cincinnati home-and-home series was supposed to begin in 2020 but was scrapped due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The return game is set for Sept. 11, 2032, at Memorial Stadium.
