Nebraska is expected to hire a new quarterbacks coach for the 2024 season with an assistant who previously served alongside Matt Rhule.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the Cornhuskers are expected to hire current NFL assistant Glenn Thomas to serve as QB coach. Along with that move, Marcus Satterfield is expected to remain as the offensive coordinator but will transition to the role of tight ends coach.

This past season, Nebraska quarterbacks struggled heavily with turnovers as Jeff Sims, Heinrich Haarberg and Chubba Purdy all saw time as the starter. The Huskers also signed 5-star QB Dylan Raiola in the 2024 recruiting class.

This past season, Thomas was an offensive assistant for the Pittsburgh Steelers. However, he has stints throughout the college ranks and was the OC and QBs coach at Arizona State in 2022.

Thomas previously served on Rhule’s coaching staff at 2 previous stops. He was the co-OC and QBs coach under Rhule at Baylor from 2017-19. Thomas also served on Rhule’s Temple staff from 2015-16, including in the role of OC in 2016.

Following the disastrous performance last season, Rhule must get the right pieces in place on the offensive side of the ball. That is especially true ahead of Raiola’s arrival as the Huskers look to maximize his potential in Lincoln.
