Nebraska junior safety Deontai Williams won’t be back on the field for a while. Head coach Scott Frost announced Monday Williams underwent shoulder surgery and is out indefinitely according to 247Sports.

Williams exited Week 1 against South Alabama after making a tackle and didn’t return. He also didn’t travel to Colorado to face the Buffaloes this past Saturday.

Williams arrived in Lincoln as a junior college transfer in 2018. He had 15 solo tackles with 0.5 tackles for loss and two interceptions last year. Williams recorded two tackles before suffering his injury against South Alabama.

Unfortunately, the junior has already used a redshirt year while at junior college to overcome a knee injury.

Omaha.com reports Nebraska removed Williams from the depth chart. Cam Taylor-Britt started in place of Williams at safety versus Colorado.
