The offseason was not kind to Nebraska.
Once again, the Huskers saw a number of talented and experienced players enter their names into the NCAA transfer portal, opting to finish their college careers outside of Lincoln. Some of those names included leading receiver Wan’Dale Robinson, quarterback Luke McCaffrey, as well as multiple members of the 2020 recruiting class.
Keeping track of all the players gained and lost through the portal, 247Sports tabbed Nebraska as one of the biggest losers in college football from the transfer portal. Here’s what the site said about the Huskers’ losses in the portal this offseason:
Nebraska’s recruiting gains in Florida during the 2020 cycle all but evaporated with Marcus Fleming (Maryland), Keyshawn Greene (FAU) and Ronald Delancy (Toledo) each opting to transfer. That doesn’t even include Henry Gray (FIU) and Jaiden Francois (UCF), both of which transferred ahead of last season.
Throw in several other losses of depth across the roster, and the pieces Nebraska lost far outweigh some of the contributors it was able to add via the portal.
The two biggest additions to the roster via transfer portal for the Huskers were running back Markese Stepp (USC) and wide receiver Samori Toure (Montana). Both are expected to make immediate impacts offensively in 2021.
Still, Nebraska saw a plethora of talented players and highly-rated recruits hit the road and travel out of Lincoln. After three straight losing seasons, the pressure is on Scott Frost to get the program back to the postseason.
