Nebraska had a big loss on the offensive side of the ball with the departure of tight end Travis Vokolek. In the 31-28 loss to Northwestern in Ireland, Vokolek suffered what appeared to be an ankle injury in the third quarter and did not return to the game.

After the game, Vokolek said he rolled his ankle but that he would be fine moving forward. Vokolek caught 5 receptions for 63 yards, with his longest reception being 21 yards.

Nebraska’s offense scored 14 points in the first half and 14 points in the third quarter but dwindled in the fourth quarter as the Huskers could not get a scoring drive.

The loss of Vokolek was definitely notable in the loss. Casey Thompson appeared to target him consistently over the middle, particularly as a safety valve on multiple occasions.

Nebraska accumulated 466 total yards of offense with 355 of them coming from the passing game, along with 2 thrown interceptions.

In his previous four seasons in college football, Vokolek caught 37 receptions for 416 yards and 2 touchdowns.
