Kicker depth is not usually something that has the concern of a college football coach, but it does right now at Nebraska.

The Cornhuskers removed their top two kickers, Barret Pickering, and walk-on Dylan Jorgensen, from the depth chart this week because of injuries. Punter Isaac Armstrong is also not 100 percent healthy.

To find replacements, Nebraska has turned to soccer players already at the school.

“We had some (soccer) kids come and try out for us,” Frost said according to Omaha.com. “We’re going to give at least one of them a shot to work on it, and see what he can give us. If nothing else, maybe some kickoffs through the end zone.”

It’s obviously not exactly the same, but successful football kickers often come from non-football backgrounds, especially soccer. If Nebraska adds any soccer players to the roster as a kicker, hopefully they just remember that in football, the kicked ball needs to go over the bar.
