Nebraska volleyball is rolling to begin the season, and the Huskers got the best of Stanford in a top-5 matchup Tuesday evening.

Nebraska and Stanford entered the match No. 4 and No. 5, respectively, and the showdown did not disappoint. The Huskers did eventually win the match in 4 sets, every one proving to be hard-fought the entire way.

After jumping out to a lead with wins of 25-23 and 25-16, the Huskers dropped a 3rd set by the score of 25-19. Nebraska made sure to avoid a decisive 5th set, finishing off the win over Stanford with a 25-21 win in 4.

Here’s how the match point went down:

Nebraska’s Merritt Beason tied for the match-high with 15 kills while Harper Murray also hit double-digit kills with 12. Murray added 3 aces and 4 blocks to her tally. Bekka Allick led the Huskers with 8 blocks on the night and Bergen Reilly recorded 37 assists.

With the win, Nebraska is now 8-0 overall to begin the 2023 season. That includes ranked wins over No. 16 Creighton and No. 5 Stanford. To make that record more impressive, the Huskers have 6 sweeps and have yet to play a 5-set match this season.

Nebraska will be back in action Sunday against No. 21 Kentucky.
