Nebraska freshman basketball star Bryce McGowens has made a decision on the 2022 NBA Draft.

Monday, McGowens announced on Twitter that he will declare for the 2022 NBA Draft after just one season in Lincoln. McGowens was a star for the Huskers during the 2020-21 season and was considered one of the best freshmen players in the conference.

“It was the greatest honor of my career thus far to play for the University of Nebraska and suit up as a Cornhusker this past season. Thank you to Coach Hoiberg and the entire coaching staff for leading us both on and ioff the court all season,” McGowens wrote on Twitter. “I am excited and ready for my journey ahead. This past year has put me in the best position possible to chase my lifelong goal of being in the League. It’s a dream come true to finally be able to announce that I will be entering the 2022 NBA Draft.”

McGowens was the leading scorer for the Huskers, averaging 16.8 points per game. He was also responsible for 5.2 rebounds and 1.4 assists per contest. He received numerous B1G Freshman of the Week honors throughout the year.

Because of his stellar season, McGowens was named to the B1G All-Freshman team following the conclusion of the 2021-22 campaign. He scored in double figures in 25 of 31 games and hit the 20-point mark 11 times.

McGowens also finished the season with two double-doubles.

Though McGowens has declared for the NBA Draft, he can still maitain his college eligibility and return to Lincoln next season if it’s in his best interest. The withdrawal deadline is June 1.
