Nebraska forward Isaac Copeland suffered a torn ACL injury in Saturday’s game against Ohio State, cutting the senior’s final season in Lincoln short. Head coach Tim Miles made the announcement following the game.
Copeland suffered the injury in the second half of Saturday’s game against the Buckeyes. He scored eight points and grabbed a rebound before leaving the contest. Ohio State defeated Nebraska 70-60.
The senior has been a key piece for the Huskers this season.
“I am broken hearted for Isaac,” Miles said, according to Huskers.com. “He is a young man who had every option available to him last spring, but wanted to come back and help lead the Huskers back to the NCAA Tournament and beyond. He has meant so much to our program and has been a valued leader in the Husker basketball family since arriving on campus two years ago. In typical Isaac fashion, he was the most vocal player in the huddle even after his injury, encouraging his teammates and showing leadership even though he was unable to play.”
Copeland was averaging 14 points and 5.4 rebounds per game this season, along with nearly a block per game (0.9). He ranked second on the team in all three categories. He’s started in all 53 games since arriving in Lincoln from Georgetown.
For his career, both with Nebraska and at Georgetown, Copeland has scored over 1,300 points and grabbed more than 600 rebounds.
