Nebraska product Nick Gates sustained a scary injury during the Week 2 Thursday Night Football matchup between the New York Giants and the Washington Football Team.

The Giants offensive lineman underwent surgery on Sept. 17 for a broken leg, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport is reporting that Gates will be out for the remainder of the season:

“Broke his tibia and fibula. He was in the hospital last night, stayed overnight just to make sure he was in good care. Actually had surgery this morning, very serious injury,” Rapoport said. “He is not going to return this season. Should be able to make a full recovery for next season.”

The 6-foot-5, 307-pound Gates went undrafted out of Nebraska in 2018. Gates played 35 games for Nebraska during his college career and has been a contributor for the Giants since 2019.
